Hungergames MockingJay part 2

Mockingjay-compI can’t tell you how disappointed I am by this movie. MockingJay part 2 stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, and Woody Harrelson. Now we talk about the good parts in this movie hurts because that’s the shorter section. Jennifer Lawrence as always delivers a fantastic performance and really brings this character home but there are so many problems with Katniss as a character in this final film that is almost hard to list all of them in one review without people getting sick of it. I think that is all that I liked about this movie. I never bought the chemistry between Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson but that works for the first two movies because you weren’t supposed to buy it but now you’re supposed to and it still doesn’t work. We were promised a war in this movie and the most we see of the war is the propaganda crew going to film on battlefields that had already been vacated! I don’t require action to enjoy a movie but if you’re going to promise that you better deliver.

The villain in this movie is not the one that’s obvious or the one that anybody who hadn’t read the books expected because they don’t hint at it even a little bit. The progression of this character into the villain is so forced and so sudden that I don’t even care when it happens. There are two characters that die in this movie and neither of them feel satisfying in any way. The first one you can excuse a little bit because of the circumstances but the second one should’ve been an emotional gut punch it took a few minutes for me to realize it happened. I hate to list this as a negative you can really feel the fact that Philip Seymour Hoffman passed away before they finished filming, that may not be their fault but there are ways to work around it that would make it feel less jarring. Overall this is an unsatisfying conclusion to a franchise that I already didn’t love.
